Mobility in the 21st century will be defined by intelligent, connected, and autonomous vehicles and roadways together. We are accelerating the development of a future vehicle-roadway system to realize the full potential of connected and automated vehicles and highways to make roads safer, less congested, shared, equitable, and sustainable.
We are developing and integrating technologies to power the world's most advanced Connected Automated Vehicle and Highway (CAVH) System. Our focus is to create an Integrated Vehicle-Road-Cloud System to expedite the commercialization of automated driving.
Despite decades of global investment in vehicle and highway technologies, the widespread deployment of autonomous driving systems remains several years away. At CAVH, we concentrate on the development and integration of technologies that will drive the world's most advanced roads and vehicles. Our approach centers on the Integrated Vehicle-Road-Cloud (VRC) System, which manages sensing, prediction, decision-making, and control functions to achieve various levels of vehicle automation. The VRC System allocates and coordinates driving intelligence and functions across vehicles, roadways, and cloud platforms. Leveraging smart roadside systems and cloud capabilities in sensing and computing, our solution enables autonomous vehicles to operate seamlessly in adverse weather conditions, work zones, and overcome a multitude of operational challenges. This results in reduced costs for onboard devices and vehicles while improving safety, reliability, and resilience. Over the next 20-50 years, this will significantly enhance safety, efficiency, and the operating environment of our roadways.
